Looking back at 90 years this Elul

This past Sunday we kick started our week with the commencement of the Jewish month, Elul—a month full of reflection, connection, and renewal of our goals and commitments. As we prepare for the upcoming High Holidays, we look back at the trials and tribulations our community has faced both here in the United States and overseas in Israel.

And yet, even in such difficult times, ALYN Hospital continues to embody resilience, turning these challenges into triumphs, as it has for the past 90 years.

From October 7th to Operation Rising Lion, ALYN Hospital has adapted and ensured the care for each child remained adequate, effective, and innovative. Through the creativity and dedication of programs like ALYNnovation, PARC, and PELE, ALYN found ways to serve children in real time—whether that meant reimagining therapy for those evacuated from their homes or offering new technologies to help patients regain strength and independence.

But it didn’t start here. It started in 1932, when Dr. Henry Keller, an American orthopedist, recognized the need for specialized care for children with disabilities in Israel. He dedicated his life to creating a place where medicine would meet compassion, where every child—regardless of background—would receive the chance to thrive.

Ninety years later, that vision endures. ALYN is not just a hospital; it is a community of strength, innovation, and support. As we move through Elul and prepare for a new year, we carry with us the reminder that resilience is built not only through overcoming hardship, but through the unwavering commitment to building a brighter future for the children who need us most.
