January 2025 Newsletter

A NOTE FROM OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

January is often seen as a time for fresh starts. Many people set resolutions or seek ways to make positive changes in their lives and the lives of those around them.

At ALYN Hospital, we offer a new beginning of a different kind. We help our patients and their families navigate difficult circumstances and discover ways to improve their quality of life. For example, we assist children facing eating challenges and provide the tools and guidance they need to make meaningful progress. We are committed to empowering every patient we serve.

We all know that sticking to our New Year's resolutions can be challenging—our best intentions often become sidetracked. But at ALYN Hospital, there’s no such thing as giving up. Every day, our dedicated team of doctors, nurses, therapists, and staff work tirelessly to ensure every patient receives the care and support they need to thrive. Our mission has no shortcuts; we are fully committed to each patient’s well-being.

Moreover, we don’t simply rely on past successes. ALYN is at the forefront of research, continually testing and implementing new treatments to ensure we provide the most effective and innovative care possible. This commitment to constant improvement means that every patient can access the best treatments available.

I hope you share my pride in the work being done at ALYN Hospital. Together, we help create and sustain new beginnings that transform lives.

ITAY HELPS IDF AMPUTEES PUT ON TEFILLIN

In collaboration between ALYN Hospital’s PELE Innovation Center and Sheba Medical Center, a device has been developed that brings renewed hope allowing upper limb IDF amputees to fulfill the Halachaly requirement to put on tefillin by themselves. This device not only empowers these heroes with a sense of independence but also reaffirms their spiritual connection and identity. It also highlights again how technology can profoundly impact lives by restoring cherished traditions and enhancing personal dignity.

THE START OF YOUNG LEADERSHIP

We’re excited to announce that we are launching AFAH Young Leadership. This exciting new initiative will help us raise awareness of the incredible work being done at ALYN Hospital with the young professional community. We also hope to engage more young people in the vital work of American Friends of ALYN Hospital.

We will hold several special events for this community in the coming months. These events will include special Shabbat dinners with community partners to help us raise awareness and identify individuals who want to become more involved with AFAH. Our initial target communities for this initiative will include New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, Miami/South Florida, and Chicago.

We hope to create a national young professional committee.

Please let us know if you have any questions, want to provide input, or suggest any individuals we should include in this effort. You can reach Alex Bauman at alex@alynus.org.

Join our WhatsApp

To help keep everyone updated on what is happening at AFAH and ALYN, we have created a WhatsApp community that will help streamline our efforts to communicate with you.

For those who don’t know, a WhatsApp community is a group that contains several smaller group chats. Our WhatsApp community includes a general announcements group with updates and a monthly newsletter.

One group chat will focus on the Wheels of Love, providing ride-specific information and updates. We will also have a Young Professionals Group chat for updates on our new young professionals program.

One benefit of this initiative is that it allows you to choose which announcements and updates you want to see. For example, if you are in the Young Professional group chat and not others, you will only receive generic AFAH updates via the announcement group and Young Leadership updates.
